Our Functional Fitness Method & Theory
Virtuosity Fitness follows Greg Glassman's Functional Fitness methodology, Why ? Because it works !
The method is aimed to maximize your work capacity across broad time and modal domains through constantly varied, high-intensity functional movements. Intensity (Relative to each individual) = Results.
So, what does that actually mean?
It means combining the core elements of weightlifting, gymnastics and monostructural cardio, then testing and developing them in countless different ways. We vary the movements, time domains, rep schemes, loads and combinations to keep training challenging, effective and engaging.
Most importantly, everything is scalable to suit the individual, making it accessible whether you're a complete beginner or an experienced athlete. The goal is simple: To build a general physical preparedness, to help you become fitter, stronger, more capable and better prepared for whatever life throws your way — while having fun along the way.
We optimize 10 general physical skills: strength, stamina, endurance, flexibility, power, speed, coordination, agility, balance, and accuracy.
Our Core Strength and Conditioning program:
Functional Movements: Safe, multi-joint movements that mimic natural, real-world physical tasks. Compound or multi-joint movements—such as pulling, pushing, squatting, deadlifting, and-or Olympic weightlifting. Universal motor recruitment patterns, that naturally recruit muscles from the centre of the body outward (Core to extremity). Functional movements give us the ability to move large loads over long distances quickly.
Constantly Varied: Daily training changes to prepare you for any physical challenge, avoiding fixed routines to prevent accommodation, preparing the body for the "unknown and unknowable" physical demands of life and diverse sports. Constantly varied functional fitness increases work capacity across broad time and modal domains.
Mechanics, Consistency, Intensity: The progression roadmap requiring an individual to first learn correct movement mechanics, repeat them consistently, and only then add intensity.
Scalable Intensity: Workouts can be adapted to your exact current capacity—from beginner to elite.
Measurable Results: Evidence based fitness, measure, observable repeatable data. Performance is tracked and quantified using observable data. See our Benchmark Workouts page for workouts and tests that you can do over and over again to measure fitness.

The Sickness, Wellness, Fitness (Health) Continuum
Originally created in 1972 by Dr. John W Travis, Any measurable health value can be mapped across three distinct states from left to right on the Sickness, Wellness, Fitness (Health) continuum chart. The more markers we can point towards Fitness on the continuum the better our overall health is therefore reducing risk of chronic disease and improving quality of life. We can use this same chart to think about many other measurable values that relate to our health such as sleep, stress, diet and so much more.
FACT
In the UK in 2024 Around 40% of premature deaths (under the age of 75) in the UK are driven by avoidable chronic conditions. This is heavily linked to major lifestyle risk factors like smoking, physical inactivity, poor diets, and alcohol misuse. (ONS Office For National Statistics, publiched 26th Feb 2026)
